VA Home Loans FAQ What if I opt for an “Early Out” from my branch of the service?: This is a frequent questions because there are some career fields in the United States Armed Forces that do allow an “early out” or a release from their military service contract before their term expires. If this does happen, I advise you to speak with a loan representative from the Department of Veterans Affairs to make absolutely certain that you do not forfeit any of your rights – such as the G.I. Bill or VA Loan – before you get out. You may have to stay in for an extra year but considering the options it may be worth your time.
I am having trouble making my mortgage payments. Can the VA help?: Interestingly enough, the Department of Veterans Affairs has been very good on making sure that veterans are being taken care of regardless of active or separated status. Meaning that regardless if you are in or out of the service, you can contact the Department of Veterans Affairs and still get some help. A friend of mine served eight years in the service and it got pretty hairy for him when he got out of the Army. His job at a lumber mill went south so he literally had no other means to help support his family, let alone pay off the mortgage that he had taken out for his home. What’s great is that he contacted the VA and they, in turn, helped him out with a small loan to help him get caught up as well as talk to the lending agency to get them to relax on the pressure they were putting on him. They even set him up with a financial counselor with the VA! This is a great service from the VA and I encourage any vet going through tough times right now to give them a call – they can help. Due to a medical condition brought on by an environmental problem while working in the USAF, I was given a medical discharge. Am I still able to get my VA home loan?: This is a question for the Department of Veterans Affairs – but if looking at this prima facie with no stipulations and no extenuating circumstances then yes, I would say you would qualify. However, that’s not to say that there are not some special issue at work where you may have fallen through the cracks and got caught up in some red tape. I would encourage you to contact a Department of Veterans Affairs representative and ask them about what they can do about seeing you get caught up and if you do indeed qualify. |
